3D/4D scanning is an amazing three dimensional picture of your baby on the screen. Your baby can even sometimes be seen moving, yawning, sucking its thumb and even smiling. A truly magical experience!
For a 3D/4D pregnancy appointment we allow approximately 45 minutes (althoughthe scan time will be much less) which gives you time to relax, enjoy the experience, ask questions and share this exciting time with up to 3 friends or relatives. It also allows time for your baby to move around to enable us to get the best possible images.
You will receive a CD of your scan which you can then use to reproduce the pictures on your own computer at home and e-mail them to friends. You will also receive a DVD which includes both the traditional 2D pictures as well as the 3D images to be played time and time again. We will also give you some traditional 2D scan pictures and 6 colour prints of the 3D image of your choice.
For the best images of your baby we recommend that you arrange an appointment for between 24 weeks and 32 weeks.
PLEASE NOTE:
We consider all our scans to be diagnostic and never scan just for entertainment. The health of you and your baby is our primary concern, so our sonographers will be checking that your baby is developing normally, including the following:
- The placenta site and fluid around your baby
- Your baby’s head and brain structure
- The heart
- Your baby’s spine, stomach, bladder and kidneys
- The umbilical cord
- All four limbs and the position of the feet
- Your baby’s growth rate
- We can also tell you the sex of your baby if you wish
You will also be given a Pregnancy Progress Report to take away.
If they find anything of concern you will be informed and a report will be sent to your midwife/doctor.
What's the difference between 3D and 4D?
Answer: 3D images are still images and 4D images are animated, (so the fourth dimension is time). Both are included in the price of the scan and are recorded on to a CD for you to take home.
Is the scan always successful?
Not always. There are some factors that can affect the success of your scan, the most common being the position of your baby. If this happens we will ask you to get up, walk about and have a drink to encourage your baby to move. We will then try again but if still unsuccessful it may be necessary to ask you to arrange another appointment (at no extra charge).
I’m having twins, does this make a difference?
Yes it can. The success of your scan will depend on the amount of room your baby has to move around which is why we recommend coming before 33 weeks. If you are having twins you should consider having the 3D scan at around 24 – 28 weeks.
